ESSUMBA SCHOOL TO BE LAUNCHED ON MONDAY, 30TH JULY, 2018

Essumba village, one of the poorest villages in western Kenya will have something to smile about next week. The village's primary school, which was jigger infested, with dilapidated infrastructure received a generous face lift, courtesy of RESULTS Japan and the Embassy of Japan in Kenya.

The school has been renovated, and new classrooms as well have been erected, something that has made the school just as good a brand new one.

The formerly mud floor classes have been cemented, something that will go a long way in eliminating jiggers, which have for years ravaged the limbs of the young children of that village, who come to seek an education in the facility.

Further, with the support of the Japanese government and a local NGO, RESULTS Japan will conduct a jigger eradication campaign event, where jigger infested people will be treated to kill the parasites living in them.

More than 60 severely affected patients will be treated, with hundreds others to receive treatment, and spraying of their homes to avoid a recurrence of the parasites.

This is part of the larger efforts to improve the general health of the village, whose population is estimated at 5,000.
