MY UNDERSTANDING OF GGG+ FORUM

GGG+ FORUM -is an acronym gotten from 3 entities GLOBAL FUND, GAVI-THE VACCINE ALLIANCE AND GHIT- GLOBAL HEALTH INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY.

GGG+ forum is an international round-table meeting organized by RESULTS Japan and Japan Association for Health and Peace (JAHP).

The main objective of this Forum is to bring all the stakeholders on a round table and discuss global health matters with focus on Japan and Africa corporation using Japan’s insights.

The December 2018 Forum in Tokyo had a theme “To accomplish TICAD7 by Japan’s Experience”. This conference will take place in Yokohama City from 28th August to 30th August 2019.

Other conferences related to the theme are the G20 summit in June 2019, N4G in 2020 as well as the International Conference for Nutrition in 2021.

Several opinions were shared as well as the Japanese insights during the meeting, the Global Fund has been in the forefront in lifesaving engagements through the provision of funds to counter lethal diseases such as Malaria, HIV, and Tuberculosis.

GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, has also been vocal in providing vaccines to children as well as adults, so far they have provided vaccines to over 0.7 billion children since inception.

GHIT Fund, on the other hand, has been active in R&D as well as funding innovative initiatives to provide health services to inaccessible areas in Africa. For instance, the use of drones in fast delivery of medicines is a good example.

The second part of the meeting mostly focused on Nutrition and discussions were around how to achieve a good meal city and nutrition health for the aging. A good mean city is defined as having safe, delicious and nutritious meals.

In the final part of the forum, Africa well-being was vastly discussed. The panelist found that Africa is faced with many challenges and some might also spill over to other parts of the world. Population explosion is one of these issues. Africa’s population may increase from 1.3 billion to 4 billion by 2100.

Other challenges like lack of toilets, water and proper sanitation were discussed. Japan is keen to use the experiences and technology it has in helping Africa.

These technologies include the SATO toilets we are planning to install as well as other types such as Johkasou which will be discussed in TICAD7 for installation in Kenya.
