THERE IS A NEED FOR TECHNOLOGY, RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT

According to Seiya Kato, Director, the Institute of Tuberculosis, Japan has made greater tides in ending TB. This was possible through equal access to medical care based on the National Health Insurance Act.

The Japanese government also made a public funded system that enabled screening and ensured proper implementation on that program. There was strict monitoring and evaluation of public health center with a proper reporting system by the ministry of welfare.

This has led to Japan taking up the initiative to support high burden countries in relation to TB. The advance in technology like the TB LAMP of Eiken has made it easy and faster to test for tuberculosis.

There is also another initiative by Fujifilm that uses urine sample to test instead of sputum. This is significant because most of the patient give a wrong sample for instance saliva which eventually may give the wrong results.

Most importantly the budget for innovation has been increased so as to control and prevent TB. Research and development are also considered as key in ending TB in the world.

様々な取り組みがきちんと評価され、研究開発に携わる人々のモチベーションにつながるようでなければいけないと思います。
